AN ITALIAN EXPERIENCE - Places to Stay
Puglia & Basilicata
In September of 2007, we took our first trip to Puglia via Basilicata. We stayed in Matera (Basilicata) and Otranto, Gallipoli and Lucera (Puglia).
The following are places that we stayed in or have looked at.
Locanda di San Martino Via Fiorentini, 71, Matera, Basilicata Telephone & Fax: ++39.0835.256.600 email: info@locandadisanmartino.it www.locandadisanmartino.it We stayed at the Locanda di San Martino in the Sassi district of Matera. The Sassi is a true step-way-back-in-time. The Locanda di San Martino is smack in the middle of the Sassi and is a wonderful blend of the ancient caves and modern hospitality. All of the rooms are wonderful, but some of them face the path that runs between the rooms. We stayed in #12, "del Mantello", which directly faces the Sassi. La Riviera Bed & Breakfast Riviera Nazario Sauro, 7, Gallipoli, Puglia Tel: ++39.0833.261.096, Cel: ++39.347.914.434 email: cortecristina@virgilio.it www.bedandbreakfastlariviera.com The La Riviera B&B is in the old town of Gallipoli (Gallipoli Vecchia) which us just across the bridge from Gallipoli (nuova). There are currently 5 rooms, 4 of which face the sea - the Gulf of Taranto. We stayed in #101, but they are all wonderfully furnished and decorated with frescoes, etc. Palazzo de Mori, Bastione dei Pelasgi (centro storico), Otranto (Lecce), Puglia Tel: ++39.0836.801.088, Fax: ++39.0836.805.10, Cel: ++39.333.953.0568 email: info@palazzodemori.it www.palazzodemori.it Palazzo de Mori is a wonderful old palazzo located in the center of the old town of Otranto. All of the rooms are beautfully restored and furnished. The only two rooms that look out to the sea (Adriatic) are #B1 and B3. |
